WoW Tailoring

Tailoring is a World of Warcraft profession that allows players to create various cloth gear and bags. Players get cloth by looting it off the corpses of humanoids or by purchasing it in the auction house. Once they have the cloth they need, they then create bolts of cloth which can be sewn into pieces of gear with the help of some thread and perhaps some dye or other required items. At higher tailoring levels tailors must actually create the cloth they need by creating it out of other pieces of cloth, there is also cooldown involved with this process, which makes the process a little more lengthly and complex.

Tailoring doesn't require a support profession in order to gather supplies, instead players must kill humanoids that drop cloth and purchase thread and dye from vendors, and whatever else a recipe requires from the auction house or another source.

Since tailoring doesn't require a gathering type of profession to obtain supplies players often pair it with enchanting, another profession that does not require a gathering profession to obtain supplies. Often times this pairing works out quite well since enchanters can disenchant the “green” and better items they make by being tailors. The end result is a faster way to level up their enchanting skill, thereby providing more opportunities to learn valuable formulas and make money selling the enchants those formulas provide.

Tailoring is primarily learned by cloth wearers because the gear created from the profession is cloth. At higher levels tailors are able to create extremely valuable bind on pickup epic gear. Because of this many cloth wearers choose to learn tailoring so they can attempt to collect all the required pieces and create this gear.

Besides being able to make great cloth gear, tailors are able to create bags which they can then equip or sell to other players on the auction house. Tailors often make money by creating bags and selling them for well beyond what they cost to create.
